I first ran a run streak way back in 2014 when I did what I called the “Advent Run Streak” which involved running every day from December 1 to December 24. The inspiration for this was a guy on Reddit who was running a similar streak, but starting with 1km on December 1, incrementing a kilometre each day and ending with a 24km run on December 24.
During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, I ran the Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee which was a virtual challenge to run a bit over 1,000km as fast as you could. It made sense to me that running every single day was the best way to get it done and that lead to a 77 day streak in which I ran 1,021km before taking a rest day.
Later in the year, I decided to try running every day again and started with a 51 day streak leading up to a vacation in Canmore. Coming out of that, I decided to try to run every single day in 2021.
After reaching that goal on December 31, 2021, I continued on with daily running and brought my run streak to 481 days on April 25, 2022 before stopping to heal up an injury and rest a bit before the 2022 Vancouver Marathon.
As of September 20, 2022, I’m running every day again. If everything goes to plan, I’ll just run every day from now on with no specific goal in mind.
